Marine Ventures International, Inc. (MVI) is continually looking to expand its team of professional PSOs and MMOs. This is a unique opportunity for a career in the field of marine science. MVI encourages those with a degree and background in marine science to apply. Candidates with valid training and certifications necessary for work as a PSO/MMO are preferred; however, candidates willing to obtain the required training and certifications prior to the start of a contract will also be considered.

What is a PSO/MMO?

A PSO/MMO is an individual who is experienced in visual monitoring and mitigation for marine protected species in support of seismic operations, offshore wind and marine construction projects. Ideal candidates should be trained and certified according to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM)/Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) and/or the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) standards. Preferred candidates will be proficient in the monitoring and mitigation for protected species according to the BOEM NTL 2016-G02 and/or the JNCC Guidelines for Minimising the Risk of Injury to Marine Mammals from Geophysical Surveys 2017. For US candidates, PSOs must be able to obtain NMFS-approval for marine construction and geophysical and geological (G&G) survey operations (MVI can assist in obtaining this document).

Many PSOs/MMOs are also trained as Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) Operators. A PAM Operator is an individual who is experienced in acoustic monitoring and mitigation for marine protected species in support of seismic operations, offshore wind and marine construction projects.
